Ok so my brother is reading a book called fahrenheit 451 and it seems really deep or whatever, its about the government taking away all the books and burning them (180%F the tempature in which paper burns) well anyways all the books are gone because the higher ups want the people to be stupid so they can control them and if anyone is caught with books the books are burned and the people are killed. Do you think our governments will end up doing somthing this drastic? What if there doing somthing right now? this is worrying:confused:. Anyways discuss.

I haven't read the book, but I did see the old movie they made about it. It's an interesting story. Was that written by Ray Bradbury?

Yes, it was written by Ray Bradbury, it's really interesting, the temperature is'nt 180 it's 451. I can't see the government doing anything this drastic.

You may recall Hitler ordering the burning of books prior to WW11.
I've read the book and seen the movie. Worth a read and a watch.

People also gathered together to burn Beatles records in the U.S. in the 60s. Perhaps we should investigate what books are banned from where. I've heard of some of Mark Twain's books being banned in schools.

They discussed banning it at my school but the parents weren't for it.

I can't say i'm shocked by this, it's just fucked up that we let them. We're powerless against it.

...Which is why I'm moving somewhere ridiculously remote, where no one fucks around doing dumb shit, everyone's chill, you got a little vegetable garden and everyone buys meat from one butcher. Somewhere that it's sunny most of the time, but you get a good amount of snow in the winter. There would be a mountain a five minute walk away, too. And a giant grow. Free vaporizers, too.

1984 is a great book. I really enjoyed reading that one. I heard they were considering making another movie based on it. At first I thought, it's 2007, how would that work, then I remembered how they kept rewriting history in the book, so there is no way of knowing if the book really takes place in 1984 or if the year was manipulated in one of those changes as well.

i love it man, it's so cleverly written. orwell must have spent so long planning that book. especially since there's a whole section in the appendix explaining the inner workings and constructs of the newspeak language... talking of the newspeak language, the way that words are removed from the dictionary every year is an incredble thought - limit people's capacity to think by limiting their vocabulary to an extent where they cannot express anything that may be considered heresy by the totalitarian govt - thats a genius facet of the story
