View Full Version : Looking For New Rock!!!

TheHitMan
7th-February-2008, 11:55 PM
I'm looking for new music, and I'm going to do a little at a time, I need some new Rock, so I was wondering if anyone could give me recos of Rock that you think I might like, I really like grunge rock and metal with somewhat yelling but yet singing(like Soil/Soilwork) I also like passionate music, angry, depressed, etc. So do you have any recos for me? Anything will be appreciated...

Alice in Chains, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Pearl Jam, Soilwork, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots, Seether, Audioslave, P.O.D., Metallica, Soundgarden Mushroomhead, Motörhead, Buckcherry, Chris Cornell, Soil,

Those are my main likings(In order, except P.O.D.) I might have forgot some that somehow aren't on my LastFM page

THANKS!!!

Also, please explain what the artist(s) are like.

Like if you said, try out "Alice In Chains" they are like "Soundgarden" "Stone Temple Pilots" etc
And give me a album I should get if you can ;)

Stone Rock? Weird, What albums should I get?

i put blues for the red sun (i think kyuss' best album) in the rock section of the goldmine, and i'll put the wizards witchcult today in the metal section...its their latest album, and probably their least heavy, and very very good aswell

i added electric wizards' come my fanatics, which is my favourite album of theirs, and kyuss' and the circus leaves town, their final and my second favourite of their works, aswell AV FUN

Kyuss' "And the Circus Leaves Town" is my fav w/"Blues.." right behind it. "Muchas Gracias....the Best of Kyuss" supposedly has some rare stuff on it but I've never heard it.
Hermano is also pretty good but I've only heard the first album "Only a Suggestion"
Songs from the Desert Session is good too. Wierd and funny as well
Clutch "Blast Tyrant" is my fav and then "Robot Hive/Exodus"
All these bands are all under the same genre I guess

If you can find it, there is this band called Peekaboo Theory that is pretty good that reminds me of TV on the Radio...sorta...

TheHitMan
8th-February-2008, 10:54 PM
I have no clue of any of these bands, I'm confused.

Could you list the artist and the album I could get.

Also, I don't really want 'funny' Rock, I sorta like my shit, serious and deep.

Thanks!

quique411
8th-February-2008, 11:13 PM
Well The Dessert Sessions is basically members from Queens of the Stone Age, FuManchu, Kyuss, etc...just jamming really. You hear early/different versions of alotta QOTSA songs. Some songs are funny like them just messing around in the studio or whatever...The albums are titled Vol.1,2,3 etc...all the way to vol.9 I believe.

Hermano-"Only a Suggestion"
Stoner Rock band w/former singer from Kyuss. Thats their 1st album (which is the only one I've heard) but they have released 2 more albums and a live one as well. Ive heard good things about em and looking to purchase them soon.
Clutch-"Blast Tyrant" and "Robot Hive/Exodus" are my favs from this band. I guess you can call em stoner rock as well. The 2nd song on "Blast Tyrant" was remixed by Z-trip on his last album.
I'll try and think of some more...

TheHitMan
8th-February-2008, 11:15 PM
Thanks, sorry about that, I'm running off of about 2 hours sleep, and 6 hours sleep in the last 2 days lol.

Alright thanks, I'm not sure about stoner Rock, I don't see myself as that type of person.

Any Grunge recos?

I recommend a band called Seam, they are more serious and deep than the ones I mentioned earlier.
Try the albums called "The Problem with Me" and "Are you Driving Me Crazy".
They came out with another album after those called "The Pace is Glacial" but I never got the chance to hear that one.
Thas all I got right now, hope you like em....

TheHitMan
11th-February-2008, 05:36 PM
Seam, they are too soft lol, they don't have any of the feeling I wanted but thanks, I'll try giving them more of a try but I doubt I'll like them.

i'd recommend kyuss and clutch too!

although i like clutch a lot more, they got a kind of funky/blues sound - and the singer has a brilliant voice, like he's gargling with gravel!

but if you want more grunge type recommendations let me think.... how about temple of the dog? it consists of chris cornell along with members of pearl jam, that's nice!

Yeah, those two albums are my favs from them but I have soft spot for "Blast Tyrant". The last album they put out "Beale St." (or something like that) was good but doesnt get as much spins as the other two. "Robot Hive/Exodus" does have that awesome cover from Howling Wolf though. I've seen these guys three times live and they always put on a great show.

Yeah Seam is kinda slow I agree w/you on that.
I'm guessing you know of Dinosaur Jr. as well.

If you like HELMET, check out a band called Quicksand. Theire 1st album called "Slip" is one of my favorites. I can listen to that album from beginning to end.

i reccommend:

Trophy Scars: its pretty much a manicly depressed guy screaming and shouting with some singing, but you can hear the emotion and conviction in it. I cant think of a band to compare it to. Their album is Alphabets.Alphabets

and

MewithoutYou they are a hardcore/metal/kind of grungey band. They are religious, so if you cant deal with that i wouldnt reccommend it.. but it also adds so much depth and emotion to the guy.. they lost a guitarist so their new stuff is more acoustic and mellow, that cd is called brother, sister.
while the old heavier cd is called catch for us the foxes. and the other one is A ==> B Life

TheHitMan
17th-March-2008, 05:11 PM
I will check into Mewithoutyou because I don't like stupid depressed songs all-the-time. Thanks

i dont classify mewithout you as metal or hardcore, but thats what their myspaces or website say so....

and their lyrics are amazing.

and if you want some mellower, yet still good stuff with great lyrics id check out the nightwatchman. its the former guitarist for rage against the machien and audioslaves solo project. Tom morello.

And metal bands with guitar like Soil, Soilwork, Slipknot, etc.

Not a lot of yelling though, like pig metal or w/e.

Looking for post-grunge bands like that.

But Daughtry is border-line lame.

So more bands like Staind, I'm reallly lacking in my Rock game lol
