So as most of you have probably heard, Mike Vick's full reinstatement is pending (up to 6 games) and he is currently signed to the Phillidalphia Eagles. I'm posting this thread because I am curious as to what views you guys have towards Vick. For those who don't know, Michael Vick was just released from prison months ago after being held there for 13 months for his involvement in illegal dog fights. He was suspended from the NFL, lost his sponsorship (endorsement) with nike, lost his 130 million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons (w/ 37million in bonuses), was forced to declare bankruptcy, and lost a huge chunk of his fan base. Nothing really compared to how many animals he injured/killed.

A 60 minutes interview with Michael Vick showed that Vick was sorry and that he has completely changed. He will even be working for years to support an animal protection association (or something like that). He has also been traveling and speaking to students and others about his mistakes, in attempt to steer them away from animal abuse. He apparently grew up in a community that wasn't animal friendly, and dog fights were common for gambling when he was young. I believe that being introduced to dog fighting at such a young age and the large quantities of money got to him. He could have been mad with power, or mad like people in movies. Horrible reference, I know.

What I believe;
I have been a Vick fan ever since he played college ball at Virgina Tech. I love his style, a scrambling quarterback that showed the potential that John Elway once wore as a Denver Bronco. Although I'm a fan of Mike, I am also a very deep animal lover. I have three dogs myself, and would never ever do anything to harm them. What Vick did was wrong, and I don't respect him as a person. However, I do respect him as a football player. He still has potential, and I can't wait to watch him play. Atlantas owner and head coach both saw something in him, he just didn't put fourth 110%. Even in the interview he said he was lazy and was living with a spotlight on him. But I want to see if he changed, so let him play. I still like him. But I want to know how you guys feel.

To people who post:
Remember, freedom of speech. Try not to get too worked up about anything said, cause I know this can be a very controversial issue.

i think he received a harsh punishment, when the system gives a man 2 years of jail and house arrest for killing dogs and then give a man less than 30 days for killing a man(donte stallworth), then something is wrong
I think vick served his time and shows remorse, so i say let him play

I think both of those assholes should have served more time.

Very good reasoning, I do agree with you on that one. I think the donte stallworth's case was pathetic, he should have gotten a huge jail sentence. It offends a lot of people when this is said, but I do slightly believe killing humans is worse than killing animals.

I think both of those assholes should have served more time.

I do agree with strange too though... It's complicated because I love both animals and Vick. What he did was wrong, and maybe he should have served a little bit longer. But looking at the fact that he is showing remorse and has lost so much for living the rich life and abusing the money he had, I think he deserves another chance to prove that he is changing his ways. He lost a lot for what he did and I really think he will change. The introduction of violence and gambling at a young age is psychological, and can be present in the future for him to think it's not a big deal. Just like abuse within a family, children who grow up being abused have a much higher chance of abusing their children themselves.

that donte stallworth case he had alot more than just 30 days in jail, 10 years of probation, had to pay the family, suspended by the NFL (loses money) i think 1000 hours community service and a revoked drivers license for life but i agree with you nolan (nice avy too lol) thats really fucked up what he did to those dogs but that has nothing to do with the football player mick vick. when i wear his jersey to school almost ever class i have at least once douchebag who thinks their funny and say "oh i didnt know you were in support of dogfighting." im a pretty chill person but i get pissed at that person and kinda put them on the spot and argue back so i stand my ground.

michael vick as a football player=was great but we have to see its been 2 years since he played but philly might try a wildcat offense which could make him dangerous

michael vick as a person=shakey

i know he got all the other stuff too. but i still think he should have had more jail time to replace some of the beat around the bush shit

For smokers 10 years probation would be awful lol

Damn I didn't know the outcome of Donte Stallworth's case other than his jail sentence. Guess I should have looked into that a bit more lol. I know they did make an estimate of how many dogs were there at a fighting camp at one of his houses and then there were buried dogs (so probably killed by him or other dogs) around the place. I'm not sure of how many exactly.

Yes but very true Silas. I plan on wearing a vick jersey for team day at our school, I'm sure I will be getting the same trash thrown at me. Hopefully not too much though.
He is a great ball player, and he might make philly a little better (lets hope he does!). But as a person, eh, to me he's not really respectable until he earns it back. I just hope he tried on both accounts to become a better person and to fully use his potential.
