So this movie came out today and I went to watch it this morning. I really enjoyed it (though I figured I would), but more so than I figured. It had some good action, good drama, and a really good underlying message. What are your guys\gals thoughts on this movie if you have seen it.

You might find yourself not caring too much about the people in it though really, that is about it. As for plot, eh.

It does have a message I think. Like how the aliens are treated, mirrors how different races are treated still today and how there is still apparent racism all over the world. I don't want to go too much into it, so as to not spoil anything.

It's another Peter Jackson produced movie. I haven't seen it yet, but have read lots about it.
Peter Jackson originally contracted the director, Neill Blomkamp, a South African, to direct his film interpretation of Halo, the vid game. The project fell through when Fox, Universal and Microsoft couldn't agree on who got all the money, so Peter felt obliged to give Blomkamp a shot at something else.
Blomkamp himself came up with the idea of turning 'Alive In Jo'Burg' a short film he made in 2005 into a feature film. It does have an underlying theme about the evils of apartheid. The name, District 9, comes from District 6, an inner city residential area in Cape Town where, in the '70's 60,000 people were forceably removed from their homes.
I don't often rush out to see the latest movies at theatres, and I will probably wait for a DVD for this one too, but I am looking forward to it. :pirate:

I just seen it today. I didn't think I would like it based off of the trailers I seen, but it actually is an amazing movie. It has a little bit of everything in it. What I did think was especially clever was the fact that is was based in Johannesburg, South Africa, given their history (apartheid and all).

During the first twenty minutes I was really regretting spending money on this flick.
They use that hand held video effect that annoys the shit out of me, kinda like Cloverfield,.
Soon after that the movie became quite interesting and thrilling. I really enjoyed this movie.
I give it two thumbs up.
Peace
