i honestly don't think any of those are underrated at all!
they have had lots of attention too right, from winning awards and what not

personally i dont think event horizon is given enough credit. great direction and story

I know about the awards and stuff, but their still not very known in the mainstream and always a good reccomendation, i should've made a different threadtitle.

lock stock is very well known, in the british media ('mainstream' if you like) at least, for pretty obvious reasons

A.I.! i dont think that gets too much credit. i thought it was wonderful. and on a similar robot-themed note bicentennial man! loved that film, but i know some people find it really boring
and now ive got going; i think alot of robin williams' non-comedy films could be described as underrated. he's a really great actor in more serious roles, as well as comedy ones
bicentennial man is one example, one hour photo and (to a lesser extent) dead poets society aswell - all reaaaaaaaaally good
OH OH! and what dreams may come, thats fantastic also

Dead Man (directed by Jim Jarmusch-starring Johnny Depp)

This is my personal favorite for Depp's career, lots of symbolism and literary references...a must for any fan of Johnny Depp's

i really have to agree with AI. it has an extremely low rating on IMDB even, but i saw that movie when i was quite a bit younger and i have always remembered it because it made such an impact on me, for some reason.

and city of god, i've got to agree with also. it's surprising how many people haven't seen that movie.

also:
bad education
amores perros
howl's moving castle

They are basically.

Cult is like underground music.

12 Angry Men. Shows you don't need special effects and lots of action to make a great movie. Probably more unknown than underrated, but still deserves a mention here.
