View Full Version : What is death?

Is it a means to an end or the beginning of a new journey that we embark on? Or is there nothing left for us, except total nothingness? Do we pass on to heaven or ride the train to hell?

I do not know what to believe anymore. Anyone got anything they want to add?

death is when your heartbeat stops, plain and simple.

but to get into opinions, i THINK we go into nothingness. but of course, its a guess because i have not died. but i would say im pretty sure you dont go to some fairy tale land or to some horrible nightmare.

I have been close to death many times. More times than a normal person should. I have walked a fine line throughout my life, yet here I still am. I have survived near death car accidents, where I had to be brought back to life, undergone heart surgery, and even, yes, tried to commit suicide on several occasions.

I did see a bright light. Like looking through a tunnel, but it was the way back, not the way to the end. I have only seen that light three times in my life and always behind me was total darkness.

I want to say there is a heaven and we do go on to always being happy and have no more worries, but it seems impossible that such a place could actually exist.

slice vertically not horizontally

I don't think there is heaven or hell, maybe we can turn into ladybugs or something?

I can never understand why people concern themselves with death. When your time is up, that's it.

If you want to believe in some afterlife, fine, if thats what it takes to get you through the day, why not.

To a degree you can control when your time will come, , for instance, not participating in activities, where the object is seeing how close you can come to killing yourself by the reckless pursuit of thrill seeking.

People who have a state of mind to bump themselves off every time something goes awash in their lives, should seek proper medical help.

They always say to make your last though, a happy one.

I believe that as you die, the state of mind you have at the time is what is going to follow through and just replay as your energy transcends.

So if you want to be in "heaven" just be picturing that scene I suppose, as no one knows how it works, no reason not to. :)

It is all about where you believe your heading. :)

And, as consciousness transcends, it is the beginning of something new, though still uncertain. :)

i dont think you can just believe you are going to heaven and then go there, because i dont think that dogs go to a heaven, or bugs, or single celled organisms so i cant believe we do. but IF there is one, then i think if you believe you should go and that you did good enough then you will.

either or, the only bad thing is hell. its not like your gonna be able to be like "wow, i am now nothingness, this sucks"

i heard ages ago, reports of terminally ill people being "comforted" by relatives as they were close to death......the relatives were figments of their own imagination, a way of soothin them in to death, i found that interesting

on another note death is a necessity, for the good of the whole race to advance, no organic matter can live forever, and evolution cannot occur if people lived forever

i wish that reincarnation was true, but its not unfortunately
i remember playin FF7 and they had this lifestream thing goin on, that would be ideal

There are many strange rumors around this world,. But i wouldn't worry about death.. I'd say just enjoy life for what it is and enjoy yourself while you still have time..

In my knowledge, i don't know of any facts of anyone having any proof of evidence that hell or heaven exists.. So.. I really just enjoy myself while i still live. As well, i do not believe there are "souls" i mainly believe you exist because of the functions of your brain and heart.. Once your gone.. Your gone.., If there was these "souls" that come out of the body after you die.. And form into this "Ghost" that people believe in.. We would have millions of ghosts all around us then, Think about all the millions of people that have died during all these centuries of the earth's existence. Why is it only to be believed that there are human ghosts? What about animal ghosts? if there was such a thing as souls living inside us that make us live.. then why wouldn't animals have these "souls" They have the nearly the same functions inside their body to make them live.. They all think as you can easily tell by there characteristics in the wild such as a lion or a cheetah when they hunt. Animals may be different than us.. But they all function like us and have characteristics that we use as well.. They know how to survive, They know when they are tired or they have to sleep,They know when they are hungry and know of its food source, As well they know how to mate and take care of their young while they grow up just like us.

Near death experiences are just that, near death or close to clinical death. The mind is still active, even if only on the sub conscious level. So those who claim visions, out of body experiences and what not, were still alive and kicking; otherwise they would be dead.

Death is final, no one has ever come back from the dead.

I don't think we should confuse near death with actual death.

Some individuals imaginations are better than others, no one really wants to die before their time, those who take their own lives (and I can only guess, because no has come back from the dead to speak what they were thinking), wish they had not taken their lives.

So many "attempted" suicides are just a cry for help, they ensure they call someone whilst in the act or make sure they will be discovered before they pass the point of no return.

If you wanted to kill yourself, then plan it properly, a shot to the head is always a good way, poison is another good choice. But remember, throw away your cell phone, go into the bush somewhere and do the deed, don't have regrets, do everyone a favor and take yourself out of the gene pool.

Do it right, compose a letter saying why you cannot live anymore, ensure you don't blame other people for your lack of wanting to live, clean and box everything in your room, send a letter to yourself with directions to where your body can be found, this way, your loved ones can have closure at the burial, in fact, set some money aside so your not a complete loser and burden your family having to pay for your burial.

Yes, your loved ones will grieve and that will be sad, but what is sadder is having someone you love continually threaten and attempt suicide with monotonous regularity, every time they think the world is against them and they don't want to live anymore, because its all too hard.

For those who only play around at killing themselves, because they really only want to get some attention from their family and friends, I strongly suggest you get some professional medical help and not use mediums such as Internet sites, chat rooms, televisions reality shows and listening to your looser friends who think that killing yourself is a good idea.

Also worth remembering, that those same friends who are so supportive in encouraging you to bump yourself off, are the same people who will die of old age and your memory will be long gone when they finally die.

I'm with Rudi. I don't really know why people spend so much fucking time stressing about it. It reminds me of young kids trying to be adults too soon. We are all going to die, every last one of us, so we WILL all find out eventually. What's the bloody rush?

I don't give a shit, and I feel this way because I've come close to dying. It made me realise that the important thing for me for now, is LIFE..

I'm a good bastard, I don't call myself a christian, and in fact I despise some of their beliefs, but if the whole Jesus story is straight up, I'll face the buggar on judgement day with my head held high, and I bet he lets me in. Mohammad, Buddha, Krsna, bring 'em all on. I'm straight up, and I'll happily face up to any godhead I come across.

If it's all bullshit, and I become worm food, I'm cool with that too. I'm having a bloody ball, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. When it's over, it's over, I'll leave the world without regrets and a shitload of good laughs.

And, I'm quite happy to find out the truth then. I'm in no rush. :D

because some people dont like to think we are like animals, they like to think that we are better and on some other level

" we treat other species like shit just because we think that were better/ saying our intelligence is heaven sent and that were clever/ like we got some kind of letter/ from a god who pulled a lever/ or mother nature maybe shes a faker cuz i never met her/"

i think no religion is right on death i mean, if one religion was right what happens to the others ex: you supposedly go to heaven if you believe in God and go to hell if you worship another god or religion and everyone else goes to hell. what happens to the people that dont even know what christainity is? thats why i think we just die nothing else or we're born into a new life w/o remember the other one at all haha

Rudolf

I agree with you silasP, Religion is just a scam anyway, If you don't follow a particular religion your going to hell in their eyes anyway, So if your a Christian, then in the eyes of, say a Muslim, your going to hell and vice versa. It's a no win situation except in the faith you believe. Each to their own, unfortunately, no one can say for 100% that their religion works.

I have never seen a religion work, have you?

Though I have seem them scam, they are definitely good at that!

Kenshi

well in Christianity's case if you have never heard of it then your supposed to still be "pure" but if you have heard of the religion and been given the option but decline then your going to hell. but its all ridiculous. trying to say if i save millions of people and help EVERY single person i come across who needs it but i believe in allah im going to hell? yeah right...

that is actually how i first starting questioning religion, when i started not believing that all the good people in the world were gonna go to hell just because they don't believe in the same religion as me

The answer the question "What is Death?" is: Death is the absence of life.

Rudolf

I'm hanging out for the religion the offers the most for less effort.

I am inclined to the 70 virgin deal, but I not keen on the blowing yourself to collect.

The catholic's seem OK, but their sermons are long, but I'm not keen on the priests having to collect their quota of little boys before they are made into Bishops.

Christianity, well what can I say, they have the vengeful god, so even if you convert to their faith, your fucked anyway, to gain salvation you have to give all your money to the church, its a scam.

There are others, but none offer a nice set of stake knifes or other gifts, perhaps a funky looking toaster or kettle would help to attract followers.

Scientology, :lmao: Sorry, just saying the name makes me laugh :lmao:

i was christian for a while because i was born into it. but your not required to give money. they pass a collection plate and you can just pass it right to the next person if you dont want to give any money. and its supposed to be charity for the church. the church i went to actually gave us a few thousand dollars when we were in need, so that might have came from the collection plate money
