Seriously?

The only band I relate to them is Led Zeppelin

Could you help me out in finding new/old/classic bands like Pink Floyd?

depends on what type of floyd you like...

you could stay with the psychedelic stuff and look into:
soft machine
13th floor elevators
jefferson airplane
hawkwind
etc...

but pink floyd is one of those bands that no one can really imitate...

The Mars Volta. Def. a lot newer that the likes of Jefferson Airplane, but some of The Mars Volta's stuff can be very psychedelic and trippy.

I agree with Drink, look into some Mars Volta and Jefferson Airplane. The Moody Blues is alright too.

I don't listen to much Mars Volta, but I heard it on the radio the other day for the first time in a long time, and I thought Pink Floyd but then they said it was Mars Volta. Def. look into all their stuff and find something that fits your liking, I'm not well versed in them enough to recommend albums.

hitman-if you're into the dark side of the moon stuff, i would still maintain the list i mentioned above....mars volta is great but they tend to veer into heavier progressive areas as well.

13th floor elevators may be the first place to start

then again, as aforementioned, pink floyd is one of a kind :)

I will try these all out.

more or less, I'm looking for the instrumentals like pink floyd. Like their crazy riffs and extremely trippy/stoner-i-fic instrumentals(guitar, drums, etc)

Thanks y'all

I will lastfm em all and find their best albums and tell you how I feel.

Keep the recos going though if ya think of any

That new Dredg album is pretty good too, kiiiiiiiiinda similar to Pink Floyd. But like mabry has been saying, Pink Floyd is basically in a league of their own. Also My Morning Jacket has that kind of chill out kind of music sometimes, check them out too.

well, if you like all the instrumental stuff...that could take you into a totally different direction than what i mentioned...

explosions in the sky
godspeed you! black emperor
giants

and if you wanted to consider some bands that have definitely taken floyd's influence (among others)
darker my love
black rebel motorcycle club

:)

Pre-In Absentia Porcupine Tree is really Pink Floyd influenced. I'll upload their Stupid Dream album for you, but I haven't heard anything else from that era of the band.

^^^^Could you upload that album for me, thanks mann

Mabry, I checked out all the bands minus Soft Machine(cause I couldn't find their albums)

Mars is great instrumentals but their voice annoys me.
Hawkwind is great but a little too quiet for me
13 elevators was good but nothing like pink floyd imo

any what I mean by their instrumentals is the sound of DSOTM and it's feel but with the same type of singing, sorta mellow with trippy lyrics/instrumentals and hard rock.

But I'm not looking for just instrumentals, I want lyrics too.

Thanks y'all, keep them coming and if you could upload some albums, it would help a lot, just put them in the upload section and give me a link.

of course I'll thank

Hello Hitman, I recommend you download "The Doors", they have psychdelic tunes as well as Jimi Hendrix with his petals. But you definitely will not go wrong with the doors.. there shit is just as trippy

Mars is great instrumentals but their voice annoys me.

I agree, the Mars Voltas lead singer can have an annoying voice, but I'm glad you enjoyed their instrumental stuff, it can be pretty ridiculous.

Yeah Mars instruementals are fucking awesome but the vocals just ruins it all.

The Doors was alllright but I was expected a different type, I liked it.

I'll check out Vanilla

Mars Volta? Jefferson Airplane? Led Zep? Hawkwind? Hmmmm. It's an opinion I guess.

Check out the Alan Parsons Project Drink_Gas.. I've uploaded the album "I Robot."

http://albumwash.com/forum/t17390-alan-parsons-project-i-robot-1977-re-issue-1984.html

Alan Parsons produced "Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You Were Here" and is often accused of stealing the sound. The AP Project has quite a large discography.

Maybe Yes.. I've bunged "Yessongs" up.

http://albumwash.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17427&highlight=Yessongs

Early Genesis when Peter Gabriel was still the lead singer.. "Selling England By The Pound", "Nursery Crimes"...

Strawbs... Rick Wakeman... Emerson Lake And Palmer, maybe earlier Wishbone Ash. They were all prog rock contemporaries of Floyd. :afro: Maybe Robert Fripp and King Crimson. Brian Eno??

I would also put up NIN as a modern Floyd influenced act.

[Edit] How about Iron Butterfly? "Innagaddadavida"

If you like Pink Floyd, you should try and listent to Mogwai. I've discovered this band a few weeks ago, and it's very good. It sounds like Pink Floyd, I think you should like it.

http://www.albumwash.com/index.php?mod=listalbums&search=mogwai&by=artist

If you listen to The Doors, I think you should listent to songs like "The Crystal Ship", "Moonlight Drive", or "The Soft Parade".

There are many other psychedelic bands, I'll give you a small list :
- The Velvet Underground
- Mùm
- The Brian Jonestown Massacre (the greatest revivalists of the 60's)
- The 13's Floor Elevators
- The Black Angels...

And more...

P.S. : Please excuse me for my English, I'm French (well, I think my English is not so bad, is it?)
