well what about seat belts? do u think it is fascist for the government to insist you wear a seat belt when in a car?

No, but comparing that to what you were previously asking is like asking someone "If people can get licenses to hunt deer for sport, why can't they get licenses to hunt people for sport?" It's quite the leap.

I think a better idea would be to raise the minimum age you can get a license to drive. This would remove a lot of younger people from the roads who just cruise aimlessly, and thereby reduce by a small percentage the demand for oil. This combined with higher fuel efficiency standards and better public transportation systems would be a good beginning to the reduction of our dependency and consumption of fossil fuels.

Yeah. I think the age shoudl be raised to 18.

And you know what I find weird? At 16 you're fivven 2,00-0 pounds of metal that can go over 100 MPH. At 18 you can go to war, kill and be koilled, and smoke and get cancer. But you can't legally touch alcohol till you're 21. That's fucked up.

my point was that not every restrictive law is fascist.

on the point of seatbelts though, consider this hypothetical situation. what if the driver of a car was not wearing a seatbelt, and crashed the car? now in this scenario if the seatbelt had been on the crash would have been an isolated incident. however because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt he flies out of the car (via the windscreen) and ends up dead in the middle of the road. so, yes, as you said, who cares if some idiot died? well, other cars using this road see the body late and slam on the brakes (how are they to know the guy has already died?) to avoid running it over. this causes cars to go into the back of each other and cause a pile up. suddenly a lot more people are seriously injured or on death's door

all that because one silly fuck wasn't wearing a seatbelt? you can't just rely on stupid people to make the sensible choice, some people have to be told.

Seatbelt laws are an example of governmental capitalism.

my uncle is allowed legally to drive without a seatbelt.. you can actually go to a doctor and have it done if it causes emotional stress or something.. cos he saw someone burn to death in a crashed car cos the seatbelt would not un-do...

"I'm afraid the belt will trap me in the car."
Statistically, the best place to be during an accident is in your car.
If you're thrown out of the car, you're 25 times more likely to die.
And if you need to get out of the car in a hurry -
as in the extremely tiny percent of accidents involving fire or submergence -
you can get out a lot faster if you haven't been
knocked unconscious inside your car.

I lost my uncle before some years...and my best friend (29 years) before 2 years in car accidents...both would be still alive if they used the seatbelt

i would never start the car before everyone wear the seatbelt !!

people who deny it...have to take the bus

no doubt the seatbelt has its safety.. but in certain instances, it might even be better not to wear it. depends on the circumstances. but when it comes to safety, then yeah i guess it is better to wear it.. i always wear mine. my uncle cant wear his though, cos it causes him some trauma. clostrophobia or something???

pff seat belt laws were told they make such laws because they care about us but anyone who pays attention knows the government could careless about us seat belt laws are pointless i mean honestly why do any of us care if some dumbass doesn't wear his seatbelt and dies in a car crash unless its are family member we really wont give a shit and if it is your family and you care so much about their safety perhaps you should be telling them to wear a seatbelt instead of expecting daddy government to do it

sure we need laws that punish those who choose to steal and murder but we dont need to punish people who make a personal choice to ride in a car without a seatbelt

and yes china's one child law is horrible how dare a government force its people to only have one child its sick and just plain wrong sure they have a huge overpopulation problem but limiting people to 1 child and forcing abortion is just plain wrong and anyone who wishes to defend such ideas should save their breath cause you aint changing my opinion

You're missing one key point in why seatbelts are required, it's not to protect the individual who has to wear the seatbelt but rather all of societies driver's who are required to pay for car insurance. People not wearing seatbelts get injured more in crashes, this means insurance companies have to pay out more money. Seatbelt laws are put in place to reduce insurance claims.

put simply.

its safer to be in a car during a car crash then in a motorcycle.

and even safer then being a pedestrian, but thats common sense.

I got a relative who once lost control of his truck. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt and before the truck crashed he jumped out of the truck. Had he been wearing his seatbelt he would've been far more seriously injured or dead.

But does this mean seatbelts are not safe? Of course not. But then again, if you want safety on the roads don't let dumbasses behind the wheel (note: if you think i'm saying seatbelts are useless please refer the the beginning of this paragraph).
