I had heard tell from various mates, and whatnot, that the customer service provided by Microsoft customer service was actually pretty decent, certainly with regards to their consoles, anyway.
And I have to say, I think they were right.
Having had my Xbox collected last Friday, and being told it would take two to three weeks from the date I sent it to them, I received it back today, earlier than the quickest time they stipulated. And the free month of Gold, while it seems they hand these out whenever they can, is just a nice little bit of icing.
Shouldn't have had to send it off in the first place, mind.

That is why they "compensate" you.
Though I reckon it should be a brand new one given, and you get to keep the old too.

Well, it was actually a new one, but to all intensive purposes, whether it was new or fixed doesn't really matter.
In a consumer world where you hear so many stories of bad customer service, although slightly anticipated, it's nice to see one example of efficiency and fairness.

Having had a replacement console through well over a week ago, I today got an email telling me that my console was being shipped back to me. Three scenarios here: a) massively incompetent administration; b) they're shipping me a broken console c) they've fixed it an I'll end up with two consoles.
In any of the above, something isn't quite right.

Well, I suppose it is useless to them, but that is odd... after all, you can sue them if you use it and say it "burns your house down" based on their incompetence, so for them to do this, it is not only odd, but against any electrical companies regulations.
Sunbeam has a policy of cut the cord and dump straight in the trash. I know it is not a console manufacturer, but the risks of allowing any damaged electrical product back into the household whence it came from is a great liability for any *******.
Either way Memento, I reckon you have the upper hand here, if it ever arrives at your door.

how odd. - just want to chuck in my 2 cents here.
I am a PS3 owner, there was a problem with it once, i rung them up and they literally sent a dude to my house the next day with a brand new one and took off the old one. i was amazed!

Guess it depends on the service and your area.
I know here in Aus, if mine was to break under warranty, I would have to post it to the other side our country.
So if you have courier service like that, that is killa. ;)
