Cocaine Cowboys
Paradise Lost 1 & 2 (WM3 Docs)
The obvious Michael Moore ones:
The Big One
Bowling for Columbine
Fahrenheit 9/11
Sicko
And for real, EVERYTHING by Louis Theroux. I Got all his episodes and they're GREAT. He adresses the widest range of people, from nazi's to televangelists to prison to black nationalists to rappers to bodybuilders, etc. All very interresting, don't sleep.

lol, super high me is amusing, but its not exaclty ground breaking, sensationlist or gripping. Also, i dont know about you, but to me the guy doesnt even look like he toking properly, is this cos they not allowed to show you smoking properly on american tv or something? i was so up for watching it, but it just seemed pointless
another docu is Where in the world is Osama Bin laden, i must admit i fell asleep. watching it, but i think its good.
OH< also: the BBC make really good documentaries, look up "Blue Planet" "Planet Earth" "Life in Cold Blood" all voiced by the loveable david attenborough, a true legend

as others said, i highly recommend louis theroux, not really feature-length documentaries like the ones you mentioned tyler, but he does always make good uns :) like tombstone said, varied topic matter, he's serious when he has to be but is often tongue in cheek so they're very entertaining to watch
greddie hit the motherfucking nail on the head with the david attenborough recommendation tho!! david attenborough is by far the greatest nature documentary maker of all time, he will never be topped. shit i could just listen to his voice talking about anything and i'd be happy - it's too damn tranquil :D i bought the blue planet boxset for £7 the other day - what a BARGAIN!!!! when i get paid (a week today woohoo!) i'm gonna buy the life boxset, 24 DVDs, 4000 minutes of pure dai attenborough magic - i would happily watch that in one sitting :) it's only £60 on amazon at the mo reduced from a substantially higher price!
as for feature-length documentaries i HIGHLY recommend "capturing the friedmans" it's very very interesting in that most of the footage is actually home video from the family being studied in the movie. it deals with the problem of paedophilia and the media sensation that surrounds such circumstances. it'll really make you think, everyone who ive shown it to has loved it because it deals with such a sensitive subject in such a great way.

shit i could just listen to his voice talking about anything and i'd be happy - .
you know this.
ive always joked he should make audio cds for helping people sleep or relax. just him reading a shopping list, bus timetable, instruction manual, anything

yeah man ive made the same joke myself to my friends. even describing a brutal murder or something equally disturbing, his voice could still send me off into a blissful slumber :D

I can't remember the name, but i saw a documentary on BBC that spoke on possible events that could've spawned the HIV virus. No conspiracy shit, just factual information that isn't forcefead as the truth, shit was a great watch. The most plausible explanation to me was that it was accidentally created as a vaccin for Polio that was distributed in African countries.
Anyone know the name?

22nd-May-2009, 02:36 PM
hmm, not sure i know bbc did a "HIV and me" bu i think that followed individuals rather than facts about the virus. sorry

the obama deception was pretty interesting stuff... but as with all this conspiracy stuff you really have to take it with more than a pinch of salt.
also watched esoteric agenda the other day. i almost suffered a coronary i had to take that with so much salt.
still, some interesting points made even if the majority of it is the questionably sourced, un-cited, unreferenced musings of a neurotic fool with some video editing software
EDIT: also, caught louis theroux's weird weeekend where he attempts to become a gangsta rapper. that was hilarious, though i think it would have been a better doc (though less hilarious) if he went to see the underground side of hip hop rather than the commercial crap. i might write a letter to him discussing this, as i was flabbergasted by the image/media consultant who claimed you have to be big and hard to have any success in hip hop - he's obviously never heard of nerdcore lol

can watch it free on google video. though it's got polish subtitles... only one spot in the whole film where they clashed with some other subtitles, but it's not pivotal..

That dude was a fucking dumbass, i'd love to spark a conversation with that guy, can't stand people like that.
But yeah, Louis rapping, how far from his comfort zone, shit felt akward lol. Great though as usual.

I always forget to search for New World Order documentaries. Didn't Louis Theroux have an episode with people who were afraid of it? Like a little town, closed off, trucks driving around it to protect the community from the NWO? That was a good one aswell, i gotta dust off my Louis collection.

i watched a good documentary the other night, called "the night james brown saved boston".
basically its about this concert that he performed, if i remember rightly, the night after martin luther king's assassination. whilst pretty much everywhere was rioting en masse, boston was completely peaceful because of this concert.
was a real good watch, further cemented my opinion of james brown being a complete legend :) only downside is after seeing so much of his performance, it makes you wish you were at that show in the boston garden in 1968!

Louis Theroux docs are always hillarious, the wrestling one is the funniest doc ive ever saw,the training session where he ends up vomiting is legendary.
