Cool as shifted.. I like the black one, the second one you've posted. The second too last one is way over done, but because of that I kinda like it. I probably wont be downloading them though.. I like REAL race cars...

I love street cars. :)
Particularly, old school muscle cars..
I have a '72 XA Fairmont to restore sitting in my garage, and we are looking for more cars, but I love the Supra as well.. I just love the curves man!!!! And the XA shares the curves!!
I am so happy right now..
:P
Edit: The only Skyline's I liked are the R34 GT-R, and the new R35... but I still would take a Supra over them.. and you can't forget the Castrol Syntex Supra ;)
Edit: Check out a site called ab-flug.jp I think, Google it, now they have some overdone Supras and Skylines!

So do I, but I like 'real' hand made jobs. I hate all these plastic fantastic bolt on kits you can get around the place. And I reckon a lot of modern cars are so well designed that any attempt to customize them wrecks their looks.

Ughh. I hate 'old school muscle cars. Blokes in their fifties running around in old V8's and Harleys is such a cliché I couldn't stand being one of them. I've had plenty of old Aussie cars in my day, including the XA, (a black one with a 400 Cleveland in it,) but no yank tanks. I've also had my share of impossible to repair Euros, but I'm over all that now. Jappers rule in my universe. Banzai!!!!

Never been a fan of Skylines. Awesome specs but oh so ugly. Yes, the R35 GT-R is awesome in looks and specs, but it 'aint a Skyline.
The latest Skyline Coupé.. (also available as a saloon.)

The new GT-R..

Yeah... overdone is right. I quite like this Z32...

Not so hot on the tail lights but the rest is nice..
But this Z33 is really crappy I reckon..

It looks like a wannabe Porsche, and has completely lost the ultra modern look of the 350.
Kinda hijacked your thread a bit but we do need a few more petrol head threads I reckon.. :D:D:D

The point of the Z33 was to make it look like a Porsche. :)
Also, I love the Barracudas, the Roadrunners, the Challengers..
But I just love the XA/XB/XC
It is the curves man. My mate's dad imports cars from the US, and these are project cars, shells, collector cars, he has a Cuda and a couple Challengers himself, and he is 40/50 himself, but the fact is, he grew up around muscle cars, and he loves driving them.
I didn't grow up around them, but I love the curve, the simplistic but effective styling.. I love the Japanese stuff too, but I dunno, I was want a comfortable Sunday cruiser you know? The XA I have is a inline-6. All original from factory. Still has the original hub-caps. And I do not want to change it one bit..
I also look at it from another perspective. Dad was always working up north when I was young, and only recently have I actually had a great relationship with him. This car to restore is kinda the father and son project that makes up for the 10 years I felt I did not have a dad..
So I think, to each his own, but this car means a lot to me. :)
Also, I think the "Skyline" is an insult to the original car.. Re-badged and face-lifted Infiniti G35s do not make the new Skyline, but I do think the GT-R takes on a lot more of the classic Skyline look with the new modern twist..
Kinda like when the new Monaro came out.. If it looked and had a connection apart from the name to the old Monaro.. great, but it didn't.. They could have called it anything else or the GTO like HSV did.. But putting the Monaro badge back on it made people go skitz!
Anyway, no worries about hijacking. I do agree, we need more Petrol Heads. I have shitloads to learn about restoring my car, but I will be looking for more of them.. like I said, I love the classics..
And shit, when I am 50, I will still be driving around my Supra, and any young punk thinking I'm too old, they can get fucked! I worked hard for it, I own it, I am gonna enjoy it, and show those little punks whos boss and what it is like to own the car of your dreams from your childhood. :)
You live once, whats the point in attaching a pointless stereotype. Drive whatever you like, and drive it well! :D
Edit: And your right about the street cars.. for the sake of yourself people! Put some effort and work in it! Anyone can go buy bolt on plastic shit!

Like a front engined V6 Porsche with a square grill, triangle tail and head lights? Of course it was...

The Cuda would be my pick for the prettiest yank muscle car, but my favourite would be the '69 Z28 Comaro.
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/Cacteur/69CamaroZ28.jpg
Not as pretty as the Cuda, but a much better all round car with good handling and grunt..
I also like the early 40's coupés, Willys, Ford etc.
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/Cacteur/41Willys2LeftSide.jpg
I could handle a street machine like this. When I was trying to find a pic, they all had blowers hangin' out the bonnet. I don't like that at all anymore. I've seen some really nice street custom Willys around.
I had a '48 Mercury Hearse for a few years, and a '46 Jailbar, but they were just party wagons.
My favourite oldtime street car was a '63 EJ Holden with a rebored 186, (to 198 ci), the old Yellaterra head, triple zenith carbs, Jag shocks and an auto from a 67 Impala. It was awesome. 19.8 second quarter with slicks. I ended up over revving it one day and shattered the timing chain and basically grenaded the engine. I'd done some minor body mods, but don't have any surviving pics. Pity really..
I was also in the resto thang for a while. Had a '61 VW, and a '58 Morry Minor for a time, but my big resto was my '55 Mk I Zephyr Zodiac. They were much more popular over here than the Oz Falcon. The '62 Mk II was the missus project, (which of course just meant more work for me.)

Oh, I dunno. I always thought the Skyline was ugly. It's performance specs were jaw dropping, and that was the real appeal, but be honest, it was always meant to be a four door family car, and to my mind, always looked it. Talking the 'supercar' aspect to a new model, and returning the Z car to it's original sports car concept is the way to go.
Must agree with the new Monaro. I kinda don't like the Holden/Falcon obsession with giant yank bent 8's anyway. I liked the era of the big straight sixes, like the Charger Hemi. To me that was real Aussie metal. I'm not really into this new taxis on steroids look. Though I must admit, the new Commodore 'aint 'alf a looker. Quite like to see a coupé version of that.
And shit, when I am 50, I will still be driving around my Supra, and any young punk thinking I'm too old, they can get fucked! I worked hard for it, I own it, I am gonna enjoy it, and show those little punks whos boss and what it is like to own the car of your dreams from your childhood. :)

I loved Hendrix in the late sixties, early seventies and I totally thrashed him all the time. I don't do that anymore. I still think he's the greatest, but the world moves on, and so do I. I had a '78 (XC) Cobra Coupé in the late 80's (only 400 built, mine was one of the two hundred with the Cleveland 302). It was awesome, for it's time, but my 350Z would totally eat it, in handling and in straight line power. Most of my mates still drive old school cars, (and I include new Commodores and Falcons in that category,) but to my mind they are mugs. My car can out handle them and out drag them and I haven't worked my car at all, and, it uses much less gas and is much cheaper to buy. The only advantage their 'taxis' have is back seats... for what? Their kids have all left home and their mates (us) all have our own cars. If they busted out of their shells and tried a high performance Jappo, they'd never look back....:) The stereotype is that blokes my age should be driving a Commodore or a Merc. Fuck 'em I say...

Cacteur, I have have not written my point clearly.
Where I wrote the Z33 was made to look like a Porsche, I meant in terms of the ab-flug kit they made. The kit was purposely made to achieve this look. Much like the Ferrari kits you can slap onto the Pontiac Fierro.
I would have never sold that XB Coupe.. they fetch a lot of $$$ at the moment, I just like collecting see? lol
I am not saying stick to the stereotype, but do what you like. :)
A lot of the street machine scene here has all that you talk about, but the people love it, I love it only because I love the old cars.. I just prefer the silent streeter, the original looking car, none of this cut up crap you know?
Either way, you have to appreciate the work, and effort that goes into it all, and as long as your happy with the car you have, go for it. :)
After all, a 50 year old man in a sports car has its own stereotype, but does it change how you feel every time you drive your car?
I feel great when I drive mine, no one can take it from me. :)
@Xeno, I will have a look, my files are a bit messed around with at the moment..

Oh.. OK.. but that's exactly why I was saying I didn't like it.. I don't like any sort of 'look like something else' plastic kits

XC. In 1978, Ford Australia was about to release the XD. They still had 400 XC coupé shells that they were going to release as Playboy Bunny cars but decided against it. To get rid of them they played on Allan Moffat and Colin Bonds win in the '77 Bathurst and built street legal versions of their race car, and called it the Cobra. Only about sixty were bought here, and, because we kiwi's look after old cars so well, most I think have been shipped back to Oz. The real rare one was the one with the 351 Cleveland in it. Mine was the 302, which I bought for about four grand in '86, and sold in '92 to an Australian for twelve. A good 351 will fetch around 70k now..
http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/Cacteur/800px-Ford_Cobra_no66.jpg
.. but I wonder how much my Mercury Hearse would pull in now?.. or the jailbar?

There was an awesome green and gold RHD street legal Willys over here done up by Chip Foose. It was worth $NZ200k and the local Hot Rod club raffled it to raise funds for Aucklands Childrens Hospital. I bought ten tickets @ ten bucks a pop. Didn't win it though. I lived in Oz for few years in the seventies, and wasn't all that impressed with the rod and custom car scene over there then. You have all those stupid road safety rules for a kick off. In NZ, if your car's power is increased by more than 20%, you need an engineer to inspect it for safety, that's it. Also, back then, most street rods were Holdens, it was boring. My mates tell me that's changed a lot but back then there was a lot more American metal on kiwi roads than what I saw in Oz.
As you can see I've been a car freak for a long time, and still go to muscle car shows and drag meets, and vintage and classic shows, but you'll usually find me with the boy racers in their supertuned Jappers these days. I'm in the local 300ZX club, (which has a 350Z contingent,) and we have some awesome runs with the Supra and Mitsi GTO clubs. You should see us all surrounding an HSV R8 on the motorway, brilliant.

Don't you have the 50 year old on a Harley syndrome over there? What pisses me off is most old buggars running HSV's and XR8's over here are pussies who have only just decided they are petrol heads. The Hendrix analogy is a good one. When I was a teen, I was the only one I knew who was into Hendrix. I got thrown out of so many parties for trying to play that 'weird shit'. And here we are today, every one over forty claims that Hendrix brings back 'the old days' for them. It's the same with cars. I spent most of my life messing with cars. Big V8's with blowers bore me now, there is so much more exciting technology around these days. The stereotype thing, at least over here, is not so much sports cars, but Jappers. Old jokers are not supposed to like Jap cars. We are all meant to be running around in Oz or Euro muscle cars. So my answer to your question is no.. absolutely not. I wouldn't give up my 350 for any bent 8 pile of Ozzy crap, or some over priced over engineered metallic German shit bucket.. no way man.. :evil3:

I am well aware of the Cobra, and they do fetch a lot. I would have loved to own one. But they are just too expensive at the moment. :(
I personally, do not like the BMW/Merc/Audi frenzy on at the moment, if I had to have one though, it would be an Audi. BMW/Merc are just too common at the moment, particularly with the introduction of the 1 series and the mercs new C series, everyone flocked to them, and not to be stereotypical here.. but the Asians in essence, go for these cars straight away.. And I think, they are overpriced for A. Where they are produced now, and B. How many are on the road..
Most of the line-up is no more special than a mid to high range Toyota or Honda example.. and just cos it is German does not mean shit anymore..
Fuck, over in Europe, BMW/Merc/Audi are treated like shit buckets, they are a lot cheaper as well obviously, but that certainly drops the value for them in my mind. :)
There is nothing wrong with the 350z, nor the 370z now, my mate has a 350z himself. ;)
