I mean the whole site like iv gone onto albums I want but they say its illegal or something or takes me onto somewhere I have to pay in dollars I didn't think I'd have to pay full stop anyway I'm totally lost x

You need to be more specific than using the terms, "something" and "somewhere"

Give an example of the album you tried to download, so that we can have a look at what your problem may be.

Anyway, the main site is a database of links, which will direct you to a file to download. These files are hosted by many varying organisations, and exactly how to download the file may be different for each one.

The file you download will be an archive, from which you extract the music files to play on you PC (or Mac, or iPod, or whatever).

That's a top level breakdown of what it's all about.
