So I just bought a PS3 yesterday, and got the HDMI hook-up for it brand new from the same store, which was Best Buy. My problem is that sometimes the sound is coming in with some static, and occasionally the screen will flick off then back on almost like it is changing the source on my screen. I have changed the settings on the ps3 and its not set to use any 5.1 settings or any other surround sound settings. I have searched online and found that a lot of people have the same issues but with no real way to fix it, that I can find. I would hook it up into either the component or composite but thats where I have the XBox 360 and the Wii plugged into. So I guess my question is if anyone knows a way to fix or work around the sound and flicker problem, and if not would it be a horrible quality loss to use S-Video to hook up into my screen??

Sorry for the novel..

Try connecting it into the other component areas to test it out and see if they cause it, it may just be the HDMI [probably cable only problem] but test it out and see.

Other option is to take it back under warranty claim, but personally I think it is the cable. How good a quality cable did you buy?

Hope it helps. :)

Hold down the reset button down when the ps3 is on stand by till you hear a beep and it turns on.If that fails,as said sounds like the cable :brick:

Well I got the official Sony brand cable because I figured it would be the best. But from I have read online, most of the suggestions seem to be to change the cable and those with the problems go seek out other cables like the very expensive monster cables and it still does the same thing so I don't think its the cable. From my experience and from what I have read it seems to be something to do with the ps3. Though it works in the other component areas so I dunno. I am hoping it is just an issue with the ps3 and that the next update will fix it.

Naa I just woke up, so not yet, lol. But it actually doesn't happen EVERY time I play is what confuses me. I will definitely try what you said later today and update on here. I did try someone elses idea once which was to unplug the cable from the back of the ps3 while it was on, wait about 5 seconds, and then plug it back in. That seemed to work, but I don't want to have to do that every time I play.

Mate I still reckon that is the cable.

The Monster cables are worth the money, I sold them at work a lot. But I will tell you, they have at the very minimum, a 50% mark up, so make sure when you do buy one, toy with them til they drop the price. [At least, here in Australia.]

So, either switch the cable or send back for warranty, but the fact is, as the other outputs are working fine, it could be an update of the firmware, the cable, or the connection itself..

Does it do it for all your games?

I'd try another cable. I use one that cost £12.99 :shy: Works a treat though.

I tried the same cable today on one of my friends ps3 and it didn't have the problem that I am having with mine. So that narrows it down to either my tv set or the ps3, hmm.

PS3 HDMI connection or firmware. But I doubt it is the firmware.. :)

Warranty check?
